Oct ’11 – News In Brief

Masterclass Air Studios, Adworld, Norway, RAK Studios, New GP Interview, Me & Tas, The CD…

Guitar Recording Masterclass at AIR Studios  I will be appearing on the 26th of November, early afternoon – lots to talk about and demonstrate.

Their blurb: “Held at AIR Studios (Lyndhurst Hall) on 26-27 November, the guitar recording masterclass will be presented by legendary producer Tony Platt and AIR engineer Rupert Coulson. It will feature performances, demonstrations and Q&A sessions with well-known guitarists, including: Elliott Randall, Phil Manzanera and Leo Abrahams.”

– The Norwegian Adventures & Rockin’ at RAK (again)

I have been mentoring a young group of Norwegian musicians, who are backing up an incredible young singer (songwriter and actor). Then a few weeks ago the opportunity arose to produce a recording of one of his tunes. We recorded at RAK – a great artist, a great song, and a rhythm section from heaven.

–  The world of Commercial Advertising & “The Industrial”

Since I moved to London, my principle focus has been on artistic projects, and so I’ve really left the above “in search of the lost chord” – but never say never (or mix metaphors)! My pal Raphael Ravenscroft (remember that haunting tenor sax on Gerry Rafferty’s Baker Street?) asked me to come up with a bunch of different & unusual arrangements of Debussy’s Clair de Lune for client Asus Computers. Then an assignment from Mixology Post (NYC) for custom music tracks for American Express’ Annual General Meeting rounded out and delivered a lovely ending for the month of September. We did that one via Skype (with some custom-built hardware courtesy of ELZ Music). Ah technology!

– Catching up with Tas

Spent a bit of time in the delightful company of golden-voiced Tasmin Archer, and discussed doing a few shows together – a marvelous idea!

–  Guitar Player Magazine Interview

Associate editor Barry Cleveland conducted an excellent interview – with some pretty cool and insightful questions. It’s here.

– The hottest selling CD so far

And finally a big thanks to all of you for making HeartStrings my most successful CD release ever (!)

More info coming soon. Thanks for tuning in.
